LKBEN10969: Howto add a user to Samba
Symptom
You do not get some samba share
Cause
This is due to configuration of samba
Solution
To use Samba you need a UNIX account on the Samba server. This is done via the commands adduser <username> and passwd <username>
Once the user has a local account their Samba password can be initalised by:
smbpasswd -a <username>
The -a switch adds <username> to the Samba password list. Configure the Samba share in the /etc/samba/smb.conf configuration file to allow the new user to browse some shares.
[Lubbytest]
comment = A shared Folder
path = /export/Lubby/testshare
valid users = mary <thenewuser>
public = no
writable = yes
You can Use testparm to show your updated share. You need to reload the smb.conf configuration file. This can be done with
/etc/init.d/./samba reload
