You need to know which Mac has an Apple ARM chip in it.
Cause
Apple silicon for Macs is a recent technology.
Solution
The following Mac computers are delivered with Apple silicon:
(from older to newer)
- MacBook Pro (13-inch, M1, 2020)
- MacBook Air (M1, 2020)
- Mac mini (M1, 2020)
- iMac (24-inch, M1, 2021)
- MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2021)
- MacBook Pro (14-inch, 2021)
- Mac Studio (2022)
- MacBook Pro (13-inch, M2, 2022)
- MacBook Air (M2, 2022)
- Mac Studio (2022)
- Mac Pro (2023)
If you go to the menu and select "About This Mac" you will find the name of the chip next to "Chip".
