LKBEN11681: How to find your real Windows version?
Symptom
You have different possibilities to find the version of Windows. Which is the right one?
Cause
These problems are by design. Microsoft changed the way versions are communicated to the users.
Solution
In our article about which Windows versions do exist, you can see a change in versioning. See: LKBEN10891
To find out which version you are running, you have multiple possiblities.
From the command line:
ver
Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.22621.2428]
Via the GUI (winver)
Although made on the same system, these versions look different.
You can also have a look in the registry (HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows NT/CurrentVersion) or access the OSVERSIONINFO structure via C/C++. All the information you get is a little different.
To find your real version you can have a look at the article mentioned above which will show you a translation table of Windows 10 and Windows 11 version numbers.
Have fun.
