LKBEN11741: How to skip installation of visual C/C++ redistributables (vc_redist) when a version is already installed.
Symptom
You need to install dependencies but your installation fails because a version is already installed.
Cause
This happens with MSI Installations when you already have a similar version on your system.
Solution
If you find the following in your logs:
Execution failed with exit code [1638]
This error menas that another version of the program is already installed. A possible solution to install this MSI can be to add parameters to ignore error exit codes. (e.g. 1638)
... -Parameters '/install /quiet /norestart' -IgnoreExitCodes '1638'
To ignore error 1638 in PSADT (= powershell toolkit) you can use the following line in your install script:
Execute-Process -Path $scriptDirectory"\.\Files\vc_redist.x64.exe" -Parameters '/install /quiet /norestart' -IgnoreExitCodes '1638'
