LKBEN10842: What are "Shadow copies" in Windows Vista?

Symptom

You want to know something about shadow copies

Cause

You want to know what shadow copies are.

Solution

Windows Vista (except the Home edition) is saving so called "shadowcopies" of the database to the harddisk. With this feature it is possible to access and older version of a file or a folder and not just the up to date version. To acces an older version just rightclick on the file or folder and select "Restore previous versions" from the properties. You can preview the each file and the restore the desired version. The file or folder is then restored to the original location.

Note: Only incremental changes are saved to the files or folder, therefore the required harddisk space is minimal.
