LKBEN10977: Howto make a zipped tarball from a complete directory with the tar command
Symptom
You need to zip a complete directory and send it to someone
Cause
None
Solution
You use the tar command to make tarballs. This is relatively easy. The funny thing about tar are the parameters. They must be in a certain order for making the tar and for unpacking it afterwards. It is also important to note that the rights can only be restored when the user root is used.
To make a tar file from the directory lubby-v1.0.10 and put it in a file named lubby-v1.0.10.tgz you use the following command:
tar czvf lubby-v1.0.10.tgz lubby-v1.0.10
c stand for create
z will zip it
v means verbose (to see what you are doing)
f stand for file
