LKBEN11753: How to test a HTTP or HTTPS connection from the linux terminal?

Symptom

You need to test your your connection. e.g. after changing your proxy server.

Cause

On the console you do not have a normal browser. With curl you can test http and https connections.

Solution

When your server does not have a gui it is difficult to open a browser. In this case you can test your http/https connection via curl.

curl -I https://www.lubby.org
HTTP/1.1 200 Connection established

HTTP/1.1 405 Method Not Allowed
Server: nginx/1.14.0 (Ubuntu)
Date: Fri, 01 Nov 2024 10:18:12 GMT
Connection: keep-alive
Allow: GET, POST
X-Powered-By: ASP.NET

You can also install a command line browser to test your connections.

Hope this helps.
