LKBEN10757: Peer-to-peer Network Access denied, although local administrator and password correct

Symptom

Upon network connection (like net use) access is denied / password is asked for

Cause

Network access setting: Sharing and security model for local accounts

Solution

Open local security settings on the affected machine (either "local security policy" under startmenu or "gpedit.msc" from commandline) and navigate to

Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options\

then look for "Network access: Sharing and security model for local accounts".There are two possible settings:

- Classic: Local users authenticate as themselves.
- Guest only: Local users authenticate as Guest.

While the first uses local accounts with ther respective rights and privileges the second setting maps every network access automatically to the guest account.
