LKBEN11617: Can you set a BIOS or firmware password on a Mac with Apple silicon?
Symptom
You need to secure the Macintosh device.
Cause
This feature is needed in enterprises.
Solution
On a Macintosh with Intel processor, you can set a firmware password. On a Mac with Apple silicon, you can't. The alternative is to use FileVault. FileVault can be used to encrpt the HD and can also be used to lock the Mac remotely. This can be done by mobile device management (= MDM) or locally.
Open System settings via the Apple Menu . Click Privacy & Security in the sidebar. Go to VileVault and choose "Turn on" next to FileVault. Choose a method how to unlock your disk and reset the password if you forget it. (e.g. use iCould account or use a recovery key)
You need to enable each user to be able to unlock the disk. When you add users after FileVault has been turned on, these users will automatically be enabled.
