LKBEN11618: Windows credential provider does not show up after installation.

Symptom

You installed a credential provider for windows 10 or 11 but you cannot see it on your login screen.

Cause

This can be by design or you might have another problem.

Solution

When you install a Custom Credential Provider, you also need to install the redistributables that might be required. Some are deliverd with the OS but some might not. This is the first thing to check.

If you still do not see a sign of a credential provider on the login screen, you might need to change the registry. When you installed a custom credential provider on a windows 10 system, it might not show up the first time you log on to the computer after it starts. The custom crediential providers are not called. This is by design. A windows 10 system update improves the "Use my sign in info to automatically finish some settings after an update". This feature is used for the first logon. This will prevent custom credential providers from taking effect.

To prvent this problem, you dan set the "DisableAutomaticRestartSignOn" registry key.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

Here you create a DWORD called "DisableAutomaticRestartSignOn" and set it to 1.

Have fun.
